Scholarship Distribution 2023 March 14
Dear Rev. Dr. Antony Thoppil, Chairman of the College; Rev. Fr. Vincent Naduvilaparambil, Bursar of the College; Rev. Fr. John Christopher, Registrar of the College; Dr. J. Jameson, Controller of Examination of the College; Dr. Geo Jos Fernandez, Dean of the Institute; Dear faculty members, non-teaching staff, parents and my dear students,
When I was asked to give the scholarship to each one of you sitting here, one of the nine pillars of Albertian Institute of Management, I started to think on Scholarship. It is one of those words that we all can identify with, but it isn’t that easy to define. Dictionaries often define it to mean “academic achievement, learning; or the qualities of a scholar.”
When you think of a scholar, what images come to your mind? I think of a college professor, sitting at his or her desk immersed fully in his research activities. I think of the students buried deep in his or her studies on the top floor of the library. I think of a philosopher or a writer putting the finishing touches on a new book. They all represent people on a quest for knowledge, for the sake of knowledge. Scholarship is the quest, or the pursuit of knowledge, for the sake of knowledge.
Each of you sits here today because you have come to exemplify some of the qualities of scholars. You are excellent students. You accept the fact that the purpose of this B-school is to help you pursue knowledge for knowledge’s sake. You don’t always know where that knowledge will take you, but you know that you’ll need it to help you define your future or even the future of the society. Perhaps you will be the next Steve Jobs. Perhaps you will inspire countless others to engage in scholarship just like you. You should be commended for your hard work.
Congratulations to each one of you present here and to the proud parents.
